We recommend ensuring the plants receive 8 full hours of sunlight (or grow bulb light) each day. Also prevent over-watering and trimming excess seedlings when they are ~1 inch tall, to allow for 2-3 of the most successful seedlings to establish into the final full plants.
Ready-to-grow cans make indoor herb gardening fun and easy! Each organic basil can includes everything you need to start growing, including: organic, non-GMO seeds, nutrient rich soil, and moisture-balancing biochar — all pre-blended for low-maintenance, organic herbs right on your kitchen or classroom windowsill. Just plant the organic seeds, water, and grow!
With biochar, it is never been easier to grow herbs indoors. Biochar is the charred remnants of agricultural waste through a process called pyrolysis, a technique mastered by Amazonian tribes centuries ago. Biochar is very porous and holds excess moisture to prevent over- or under-watering, aerates the soil for quick root growth, and increases nutrient absorption. No need for transplanting, drainage holes, or messy trays — the biochar does the work for you, making each herb garden kit simple and fun.

Ready to grow and ready to eat
Back to the Roots is all about sustainable innovation. We saw most aquaponic systems in the market were large, expensive and poorly designed. That's why we worked with experts, designers and our community to bring you a high quality version that's compact enough to keep right in your home.
Back to the Roots is on a mission to Undo Food. In a college class, we learned mushrooms could grow entirely on spent coffee grounds. After watching hours of how-to videos and turning our fraternity kitchen into a big science experiment, we eventually decided to give up our corporate job offers to instead become full-time mushroom farmers. What started as curiosity about urban farming has turned into a passion to Undo Food and reconnect families back to where it comes from.
About the Brand
What started as curiosity about urban farming has turned into a passion to Undo Food™ and reconnect families back to where it comes from through fun and delicious ready to grow and ready to eat products.
And that passion to Undo Food is what took us from organic mushroom kits to stoneground breakfast cereal. Sometimes, we want to grow food ourselves, taste the absolute freshness, and show kids how mushrooms or herbs grow. We believe in a future where all food comes from the kitchen, not a lab; and where R&D teams aren't biochemists, but our grandparents.
